I. Technical Capital Link to heading
Skills and tools that can be reused, monetized, or used to build systems.
Operating a Computer + Reading English Link to heading
The literacy of a modern worker, cultivated by widespread higher education.
Document Writing Link to heading
Bilingual writing, competent across multiple styles. I write in Typora, back up with Simplenote / Nutstore, and use GPT to help polish. Good at associative, divergent thinking, and able to use AI to enrich content and refine language. My expression is fairly full, and my style is heavily shaped by whatever I’ve been reading lately.
Information Retrieval Link to heading
Able to combine search engines and GPT to find information, good at adjusting prompts; skilled at asking questions on forums, finding papers and managing them with Zotero, and acquiring and archiving both digital and physical materials.
Programming + Scripting Link to heading
Proficient in Python, able to locate and fix bugs in large projects; skilled at environment setup and deployment. Can write Python/Shell scripts from scratch and automate deployment, is comfortable with Docker operations and remote development, and can manage data on a local NAS.
Strong self-learning ability โ with GPT’s help, can pick up a new language like Java or Rust and start a project within two days.
Data Analysis / Quantitative Research Link to heading
Able to abstract tasks into data metrics, with a good sense for charts and structured presentation. Familiar with statistical tests (time series, panel data), with a basic sense for identifying issues like “reverse causality” and “sample selection.” Understands the deep-network training pipeline (sampling, hardware tuning, loss design, training strategy), though hyperparameter-tuning experience is limited.
Lightweight Web Development Link to heading
Able to quickly build a static website with Hugo + GitHub Pages, for publishing content and materials.
โ These skills form a complete toolchain for me to independently gather information, analyze it, and publish content โ supporting free expression and the realization of ideas.
II. Experiential Capital Link to heading
Unique cognitive advantages gained through lived experience.
Education Link to heading
Compulsory education plus higher education gave me a foundation of scientific and cultural resources; it also exposed me to peers from different backgrounds, giving me firsthand observation of teachers, school systems, and student organizations. I’ve studied/worked in multiple cities.
Travel Link to heading
I’ve tried many ways of traveling (group tours / independent travel / road trips / cycling / solo trips abroad), building practical experience in transportation, lodging, and itinerary planning, and honing my ability to plan, execute, and improvise.
Through travel, I learned the courage to just start, gradually shed a “pre-trip perfectionism,” built confidence in solving unfamiliar problems on my own, and improved my ability to handle uncertainty while talking to strangers.
The Finance Industry Link to heading
I’ve personally gone through financial education and a career path in it, and been exposed to academic circles as well as the public-fund and private-fund worlds; I’ve observed the states of mind and culture of people in the industry. I’ve felt the performative rules of the workplace, and witnessed the tension between “talk” and “reality.”
โ I was hit relatively early by the experience of “my major is A, my hobby is B, and I’m no better than others at either A or B” โ without any fixed bias toward strength or weakness, good or bad, I stayed firm in my own choices and kept a wary eye on group conformity and blind following.
III. Temporal Capital Link to heading
Time I control freely, and the ability to use it well.
Long-Term Autonomy Link to heading
I’m currently young, healthy, without family burdens, and free of unavoidable disruptions โ my time belongs to me, and I can arrange my days according to how I feel physically and mentally.
Sticking to Habits Link to heading
I keep up habits of exercise, meditation, and learning input, giving life a rhythm; I regularly reflect and course-correct, continually optimizing my state.
Planning and Progress Management Link to heading
After quitting my job, I built a weekly schedule (combining GPT-generated plans with tracking), inspired by books like Waking Up, which revived the rhythm I once had during exam-driven years โ awakening personal potential within a fully self-directed life.
โ My time is not only free but also of relatively high quality โ the result of good habits, material foundations, and time-management ability working together.
IV. Network Capital Link to heading
The mutually supportive, co-creative information network I’ve built with other people and platforms.
Technical Connections Link to heading
Including friends and former colleagues in tech, communities in the investment industry, contacts in academic and publishing circles, and authors from technical communities and GitHub.
Creators / Independent Thinkers Link to heading
Including friends who create literature/art, Douban acquaintances, individuals met while traveling, and thinkers encountered through books and journals.
Online Content Platforms Link to heading
Using decentralized platforms to access high-quality content, bypassing recommendation algorithms and geographic restrictions. I have a good ability to filter and judge, letting me connect with real individuals without easily being misled by bad information.
โ I’m not good at proactive socializing, but I know how to record and express, and I know that when I need it, I can find support and inspiration through online channels.
V. Spiritual Capital Link to heading
The beliefs, aesthetic sense, and inner dialogue that support my choices and actions.
Self-Reflection Link to heading
Through writing and meditation, I regularly review and clear my mind, staying aware; incense and aromatherapy help keep my inner life pure.
Pursuing Freedom / Autonomy / Meaning Link to heading
I judge value before I act, preferring to act less if it means staying true to myself. Even without output, as long as the idea is affirmed, I’m satisfied. Spiritual affirmation is what drives my action.
Drawing Nourishment from What I Take In Link to heading
Nature, film, and books nourish me spiritually. Some people can build a spiritual kingdom amid mechanical, mundane chores โ I can’t. I can’t accept a fractured life of “doublethink.” I want to build a self-sufficient, coherent spiritual system, and connect with the outside world from that foundation.
VI. Which Asset Do I Value Most? Link to heading
Surrounded by water on every side, yet none to drink. What I value most is spiritual capital.
Because:
- Technical capital: the direction is clear, and it can be picked up quickly, in about 100 hours;
- Experiential capital: obtainable simply with time + resources;
- Temporal capital: accumulable with planning and support systems;
- Network capital: grows steadily through participation and record-keeping.
But spiritual capital:
- Accumulates non-linearly;
- Requires resolve, state of mind, conditions, and environment to align all at once for a qualitative leap;
- Quietly vanishes into the trivia of daily life the moment you stop paying attention and engaging in dialogue with yourself.
Spiritual capital is my starting point for choice and creation. When I’m spiritually fulfilled, I’m not swayed by disturbance, and I can hold onto my true self amid the noise.
Freedom isn’t the joy of escaping farm labor โ it’s feeling truly fulfilled even while choosing to do farm labor. It’s not avoiding hardship, but giving hardship meaning. If your spiritual system has already been set by outside forces, then your “gratitude” may just be a rationalization after being tamed.
Where your heart is, there your treasure will be.
Those spiritually impoverished have no true freedom to choose, and no true freedom to be grateful.
